Sweatpants may be comfy, but looking clean on campus is just so much more fun. Bespectacled FIT student Alex looks super polished in a sharp blazer (guys, just keep one of these in your closet, please) and unique paisley-patterned tie. Sneakers keep the look casual, but still hip. When it comes to suave style, Alex is at the top of his class.

Over the next few weeks, we'll be spotlighting style on campuses around the city. Alex is a student at the Fashion Institute of Technology.

Beads, beads, good for your heart, the more you eat, the more you… huh?

I’ve gone crazy for beads (if I wasn’t already crazy for them). I recently took a trip down to a coastal city called Durban which is in a province called Kwa-Zulu Natal, which basically means Zulu Kingdom, i.e. where my tribe (the Zulus) reign from.

Women make a living off of creating gorgeous beaded pieces which includes jewelry, crafts and other cool things. I found my heaven! I bought beaded sandals, bracelets and even a beaded spectacles holder (is that what it’s called?).

I thought I was good at making beaded art and such…Not after I saw the work that these women do. Every single bead is put on one by one, by hand, by candle light!

Can you spell M.E.T.I.C.U.L.O.U.S?

We don't often spend extra cash (mostly because we don't have it...), but sometimes throwing down that extra dime can go a long way. Case in point, Emmanuel - a suit specialist from California. His entire outfit on the LES screamed high-class, from the Barneys bowtie to the well-cut and well-striped suit jacket by the classic Thom Browne. Notice the added extra flair care of his Shipley and Halmos floral shirt and those dapper Paul Stuart shoes.  Hey, we all need to splurge once in our lives...especially if we can look this good!

Any way you cut it, Elena's got 'the cool'.  Half-Costa Rican and half-German, her style inspiration is split between the two cultures.  She's taking a break from the Euro-scene to live in the City these days, adding extra dimensions + touch of flair to her every look. The buttoned up blouse screams Elijah + Remy, but it's those octagonal glasses, a vintage purchase from Buffalo Exchange, that put this chick in a league of her own.  If only we knew eight ways to say 'We're obsessed...!'

She goes by Wildcat Ebony Brown -  fitting given her fierce Native American style! With a feather in her hair, this chick channels Cherokee right through to her homemade dream catcher necklace!  But those electronica glasses?  A Cazal-style steal from her beau. We'll call him...Chief Wildcat?

Shane swears he's influenced by the Jersey Shore, but thankfully all that flash doesn't quite translate into his style! We think the kid's got more of a Brooklyn vibe (he's originally from Arizona), looking retro in limited edition vintage American Apparel glasses on a Soho block. Whatever his inspiration, one thing's for sure - Snooki would NOT appreciate his look like we do!

Meet Elijah, a skateboarder from the West Coast (yah, we couldn't believe it either).  With a buttoned-up style that rivals our own street smarts, and polished oxfords with geek-chic frames, this kid screams anything but the Boardwalk. Even the earring - designed + crafted by his West Coast belle - looks suspiciously St. Mark’s Place. That said, we found some of Elijah's skateboarding skills on YouTube…and, well, he's pretty damn good. We rolled up on our model-friend Jessica hanging in downtown NYC, where summer basics have never been so dope. Her combination of a linen white tank + jeans is a bit simple, but she lets the dark trilby add that something extra to the mix! And the glasses - tinted specs or shades? We can’t decide. But her style? Perfection.
