Gender Bender – Por Siddhijar

If Annie Hall were bendin’ genders and breakin’ hearts in NYC circa 1940, we imagine she’d be taking cues from Por Siddhijar. Decked out in American Apparel from head-to-tote, our foreign fashionista (visiting all the way from…Chicago) keeps things boyishly loose in a plaid button-up and cuffed slacks. Yet, with a few delicate details – skinny belt to flatter her waistline, unbuttoned collar to frame her neck – she manages to ground the look in a refined gurrrrliness. Woody Allen’s latest hit may be set in Paris, but with modern muses like Por walking the streets, might we suggest a move back home?

NYC Campus Crawl – Jessi Brattengeier at SVA

How to describe Jessi’s style? ‘Bohemia minus all the bullsh**,’ she says. And that’s why we love her. The freshman SVA student is a straight-shooting style guru who believes that outfits should be an extension of one’s character. Hers? A mix of beat-generation, witching, and organic living. Not surprisingly, all that was mixed into her look early this week, a mish-mash including a gorgeous wool skirt with pattern, thick canvas belt with leather buckling and some bewitchingly hot black lace-ups. A design major and founder of Moon Pulls Design, the chick’s been here a few months and is already running the City…one thread at a time.

NYC Campus Crawl – Sarah Vandervennet

Bring on the cold weather! Sarah’s ready for a drop in temperature, wrapped up in a grandpa-style vintage cardigan on NYU’s campus this week. The English and creative writing major paired the sweater with a cool, distressed leather messenger bag, perfect for lugging around (vintage) books. And those high-waisted khakis wrapped with a caramel belt just make us melt. Looks like braving fall’s breezier days isn’t so hard when you’ve got style!

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be spotlighting style on campuses around the city. Sarah is a senior at New York University.
