Every New Yorker knows that the weather in this city can be as unpredictable as a Lana Del Rey performance…that’s why you’ve gotta go out prepared. Take fellow Brooklynite, Isabel Daphne, for instance. Spotted in the East Village, the fashionista worked a monochrome look in a chic pleated silk skirt, and black leggings. But atop her darker attire, Daphne showed off a burst of bright orange in a vintage shearling coat—y’know just in case the wind blows in, or a last-minute drink calls. Style-savvy and street smart? This ain’t any old girl we’re dealing with; she’s a New Yawk girl.

New York's looking a whole lot purdier these days. It could be the sunny weather...or it could be the models. It's the models. With New York Fashion Week just around the corner, a legion of flawless faces have taken to the streets in search of gigs that'll make 'em "the next big thing." But Charlene Almarvez, one of the world's top models, isn't searching for her breakout opp...the Filipino beauty's likely booked solid. Having already walked for DVF, Peter Som, and Christian Dior, Almarvez is one of the most sought after women on the catwalk, and she's also one of the sweetest size zeros we've ever met. The teen took to Union Square yesterday in a number that was classic with a dash of badass - notice the intricate detailing on her fur and leather moto-jacket! Werk, girl, WERKKK.

Between mega-births, divorces, and Thug Life tats, 2012 has been one helluva thrill ride. But for a select few, the year has yet to really hit overdrive. We've scoured the culture pages, listened to umpteenth tracks and watched every indie movie to determine just who will make moves this year. And so below are the 12 People You Should Know In 2012. From actors to musicians to fashion up-and-comers, these are the names you'll be buzzing about, and the songs you'll be swooning over.  Now if only there was a category for style websites...*ahem*.

What do you get when you mix raw talent with even radder style?? Probably something like ATL-transplant Kendell Boyce: this kid’s a natural when it comes to mixing it up in the studio and causing whiplash double-takes on the street. We caught the aspiring rapper flaunting his style instincts in a layered look every bit as (winter) functional as it is fashion-forward: double tees beneath a heavy sweater, a pair of ripped-only-in-the-right places jeans, camo hat, and eye-poppin’ accessories (he does go to Bronx School of Visual Arts, after all), even vintage jewelry from “all over.” Whether out with a crew of other Tumblr-famous kids or helping with the Web’s hottest photo sites, this versatile artist’s intuition seems to be pointing him in all the right directions. What do you get when you mix drive with inherent ability? See above.

We all know the stereotypical high-school cool kid: she’s got all the guys, all the looks, and all the ‘tude to effortlessly WERK both. But no one does high-school cool quite like Alyssa Richard. This chick’s got all of the above… plus heart. That chic short ‘do? More than a fashion statement: Ms. Richard chopped off her locks after a friend was diagnosed with cancer. This inside-and-out beauty – rockin’ a classic white blouse over black leggings and a trio of en-pointe accessories: overlarge glasses, cowl scarf and (ADORE) a studded elephant necklace – is, duh, a model. We may have interrupted her Union Square commercial for Dead Heart NYC, but like any aspiring fashionista (her dream is to study fashion merch at FIT – we think she’s a shoo-in, no??), she graciously took the time to strike a pose. Because when you’re that much of a hottie with a heart of gold, you don’t act anything other than seriously cool.

The people of Pennsyltucky have high hopes for Camille Corazon. The singer made her way from the mountain town in PA to pursue a career here in New York, and things are going pretty damn well for her. Not only is she in the studio recording with high-level producers (of Eve, Cam'Ron, Alicia Keys fame), she's been getting a stream of street style love from big names, nbd. When we caught up with Corazon, the Wixon-looking diva was laying low in a simple but effective number. But c'mon, we all know camel coats with gold embellishments really are the business. Oh, and tassles? Tassels are our everything right now...on purses, on blouses, and on flats. Damn,  this cutie's even making us Pennsyltucky-proud. Listen to Camille Corazon's tracks here.

A smart actor knows he must always look the part, especially in this city. With high-profile gigs everywhere - often snatched up after a swift handshake or upon an agent run-in on the street - one must always be prepared. And for Ebeneezer Sowah, his next role may be closer than he ever imagined. We ran into the New York actor in the West Village, intrigued by his ability to rock a monochromatic look that doesn't fall flat. Sporting all brown from boot to gorgeous leather backpack, Shah looked ruggedly urban, telling us that he's ready to take on any audition that comes his way. Hmm.. a suave hiker who's instantly become the talk of the city streets? Hey, you never know, could be the role of a lifetime.

Fashionistas in this city have a weekday routine: Work, werk!, and then, work out. We caught Josie Atwood at the end of her day, returning from what seemed to be an ultra-chic gym session in Brooklyn. Wearing lace-up black booties, tapered grey capris, and a gorgeous wool collarless coat, Atwood redefined the term "athletic wear," to the chagrin of women everywhere. But as a FIT grad with Ralph Lauren credentials, it's understandable that shorts and a tee just won't do for Atwood. Especially not when she's werking out, duh. Go Josie!

We're dying. D-Y-I-N-G. Brandon ripped out our hearts, stepped all over them with his cranberry velvet Docs and handed them back wrapped in that gorgeous hooded fur jacket. Really. The stylist from Ohio was cruising along Union Square when we exchanged (stylish) glances. He's on staff at The Standard hotel, where workers look like models, but his true passion's fashion. A style insider, Williams told us that blazers are what's in for this season - day or night - and also that his good looks often break hearts. Actually, he only told us the blazer part...we inferred the rest. Cue Mariah.
