Familiar faces return for Scouts’ auction.(Neighbor) here free restaurant coupons

Daily Herald (Arlington Heights, IL) February 3, 2000 Can I get 10?

Do I hear 20?

Going once. Going twice. Sold.

If you missed the Boy Scout Troop 32 auction Saturday, you missed a great deal of excitement, bidding wars galore, fantastic bargains and lots of fun.

Everything from restaurant coupons, hotel getaway weekend packages, housewares, computers and birdseed went up for bid. The items were the generous donations of more than 120 donors, including many area merchants.

Karen Galas, auction chairwoman, said $45,000 was raised.

“It was a great night considering the weather and all,” Galas said. “I’m pleased. It was better than last year.” As I mentioned in a previous column, some of the items that go up for bid are expected to be re-donated for the following year’s auction, such as the picture of the first Russian pope. This picture was donated five years ago and each year since then, it has been returned only to be auctioned again. Another stipulation for whoever purchases this picture is that they must make sure it is proudly displayed in village Mayor Ross Ferraro’s office for at least one week.

In keeping with tradition set by the late and very much loved Sue McNees, who was a former village trustee, her husband, Bob, purchased the picture and vowed to donate it for next year’s auction.

For the second year in a row, Galas purchased the statue of the Spanish contessa that she originally donated. Actually, she didn’t want it for herself. Instead she handed it over to Scout committeewoman Diane Karrigan for safekeeping. Of course, Karrigan will keep the contessa until next year when she donates it so some other lucky person will have the honor of caring for this statue. this web site free restaurant coupons

This evening not only helped Troop 32 with camp expenses, but it was helped chase away the winter blahs. A special thanks goes out from the troop to its sponsor, Perrottet-Nickerson American Legion Post 76, and Deldon Miller, who has been the auctioneer since Day One.

‘Ondine’ Glenbard North High School students will present another great play with “Ondine,” by Jean Giraudoux. This romantic fantasy, adapted by Maurice Valency, will surely be a treat.

Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 10, 11 and 12 in the school’s little theater, 990 Kuhn Road, Carol Stream.

Tickets must be purchased in advance for $5 each by calling (630) 681-3399.
