Liberals To Oppose Ashcroft see here christmas card sayings

AP Online January 9, 2001 | LIBBY QUAID, Associated Press Writer LIBBY QUAID, Associated Press Writer AP Online 01-09-2001 Liberals To Oppose Ashcroft

WASHINGTON (AP) — Liberal groups said Tuesday they will work together against John Ashcroft, President-elect Bush’s choice to head the Justice Department.

The foes include advocates of gun control, abortion rights, gays and lesbians and the environment, many of whom also opposed Ashcroft during his five statewide races in Missouri.

“John Ashcroft’s views on a range of issues that would be the subject of his work as attorney general are simply too extreme,” said Wade Henderson of the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights. The former GOP senator and governor, Henderson added, “should not be invested with the responsibility of guaranteeing justice for all.” site christmas card sayings

A Republican coalition working to blunt criticism of Bush’s Cabinet picks countered: “For these groups, anyone to the right of Ted Kennedy would be considered too extreme.”

The Judiciary Committee expects to begin hearings early next week. Tough questioning awaits Ashcroft, said Senate Democratic Leader Tom Daschle of South Dakota.

“In his case, it’s primarily a question of whether Senator Ashcroft is able to enforce laws that he has publicly disagreed with,” Daschle said.

Beef up your back

Joe Weider’s Muscle & Fitness March 1, 2002 | Berg, Michael If your back development isn’t all you want it to be, the problem may lie in your workout. Here are four errors made when training back: web site lower back exercises

4) Leaning back on the pull-down. No matter what the exercise, people tend to put themselves in a position where they have the optimal mechanical advantage to make the exercise easier and be able to lift more. On the pull-down, it’s easier to lean back, thus recruiting your middle and lower back muscles and turning the move into a row. While recruiting more muscles may sound good, making the pull-down just another rowing exercise is redundant with your barbell, dumbbell or seated cable rowing. The pull-down targets the lats, thus building the overall width of your back when done correctly. Sit upright with just a slight lean back and bring the bar down to your clavicle for best results.

3) Not using a variety of movements.

From the erector spinae down the middle of your back, to the rhomboids, traps and teres major and minor of the upper/middle back, to the las draping down each side, all the muscles of the back have to be trained if you want to gain any ground. Your workout should consist of a heavy row, a pull-down and/or pull-up movement, and lower– back exercises such as dead– lifts (which work the upper back, lower back and legs) or extensions. In addition, switch between wide- and low-grip rows and pull-ups/pull-downs every few workouts to keep the growth engine humming. site lower back exercises

2) Not moving your shoulders. The purpose of the upper-back muscles is to facilitate movement at the shoulder joints. So if your shoulders stay pinned back or rounded forward on a row, for example, you’re essentially working only your arm muscles. As you row, let your shoulders come forward on the descent and roll them back on the ascent, squeezing your shoulder blades together at the top.

1) Not forging a mind-muscle connection. People often complain that they never get a good pump in their back. This is likely due to one of two factors, and probably a combination of both. First, they don’t move their shoulders as described in No. 2 and second, they choose a weight that’s too heavy, causing them to rep quickly and with momentum rather than with slow, controlled form. You need to feel the back muscles firing as you pull — don’t just do whatever it takes to get the weight from point A to point B.

Life’s simple pleasures; Justine Halifax finds peace and tranquillity at an historic estate in Hadrian’s Wall country.(Features) web site hadrian s wall

The Birmingham Post (England) December 30, 2010 Byline: Justine Halifax ir Winston Churchill once said: “My tastes are simple, I am easily satisfied with the best.” SAnd it’s this maxim that the owners of Lanercost’s luxury holiday cottages, in the tranquil valley of the Irthing River, 13 miles north of Carlisle, have tried to adhere to.

Described as an “ancient and magical place with a truly modern twist”, even before setting foot inside these six cottages, nestled in a large courtyard, you are touched by a sense of history.

For these pretty buildings, which lie at the heart of the ancient Naworth Castle estate, the seat of the Earls of Carlisle and still privately owned by the Howard family, are set in the shadow of the ruins of the 12th century Lanercost Priory.

And the dramatic backdrop of this magnificent 1169 Augustine Priory – once home to the Romans but devastated by William Wallace – is just one of a host of historic sites on your doorstep at this idyllic spot in the rural borderlands of Cumbria and in the heart of Hadrian’s Wall country.

In fact you’ll be spoilt for choice of places to visit as these six, four-star stone cottages are less than 400 metres from Hadrian’s Wall and close to Birdoswalt Roman Fort, Naworth Castle.

You can walk along the section of Hadrian’s Wall near the cottages which our children thoroughly enjoyed doing and visiting Naworth Castle, only open to private tours, was a fascinating experience.

The wealth of delights in the northern Lake District, Carlisle, Scottish borders, Northumberland and County Durham, are all within easy reach too.

Carlisle Castle was a huge hit with our children as there was plenty to explore, nearby Tuille House was interactive and fantastic, and Walby Farm Park is a great indoor and outdoor attraction. go to site hadrian s wall

Luxurious aspects of Lanercost’s contemporary cottages, named after powerful families connected to the spot like the Howard and Dacre family, include oak floors, Persian carpets, reclining leather sofas and Egyptian cotton sheets. Sleeping four to eight people, three of the cottages are single storey, while the rest are two storey.

But while they are both quiet and secluded, you’re not completely isolated.

As well as free wi-fi, there’s an on-site farm shop selling Cumbrian products, fresh vegetables, meat and ice-cream, and a contemporary tea room serving homemade cakes, breakfast and lunch.

Our stylish home for two comfortable nights was the two bedroom Greystoke house. It was spotlessly clean, very cosy and was ample room for my family to spread out in and relax. The spacious lounge opened out into the attractive courtyard and the hall and dining room opened out into the peaceful grounds of the Priory’s Garth. The kitchen was well-equipped, the master bedroom was large and had a large en-suite bathroom, with bath.

It also featured a quirky, little, low-ceilinged room which made a great play room that our children loved and were sad to leave.

The children’s bedroom was also large with twin beds and another good sized en-suite bathroom with a powerful, double, power shower.

For just one night we also sampled life in one of the smaller cottages, the two bedroom, single storey Dacre Cottage.

Although much smaller than the houses there was still enough room to live in comfortably for my family of four.

The children’s twin room was a good size and the master bedroom large and both featured en-suite bathrooms.

Every Lanercost holiday cottage also has a booklet of information on where to visit, close to home and further afield, where to eat as well as a selection of DVDs.
