Another fashion week, another Cathy Horyn vs. fashion designer feud. After an open letter from Oscar de la Renta, and a not-so-positive shout out from Lady Gaga on “Cake”, Hedi Slimane is the latest fashion name to dig into the New York Times critic. Horyn, who was banned from Slimane’s debut Saint Lauren S/S 13 runway show in Paris Monday, wrote a scathing review of the designer’s debut collection for the French House, calling it “a frozen vision of bohemian chic at the Chateau Marmont.” (Slimane has been living in LA for months.)
In response to Horyn’s critique, the Saint Laurent designer took to Twitter (yes, Twitter) to unleash an open letter ridiculing Horyn’s fashion sense, calling the critic a “publicist in disguise” and also labeling her a “schoolyard bully.”
But the NYT fashion critic wasn’t the only one excluded from the Slimane’s list.Business of Fashion editor Imran Amed was also excluded because the designer disapproved of Amed’s “tone” when he reviewed the brand previously.
So, basically, designers are just like us! They only want positive reviews of themselves and their collections – no criticism. So from this day forth, expect to see a bevvy of bloggers seated front-row in gifted designer gear dishing “unbiased” and totally positive reviews from now on. *Side Eye* Does this feel like high-school to anyone else? And the upper ranks of fashion are supposed to be classy. ha!
