Last week, Swagger’s Editor-in-Chief announced that he had a task for me: Take on New York Fashion Week. With those words, I realized that I had never been so excited and scared in my entire life! I thought Fashion Week would be scary, snobby, strange, out of my league even. That’s what it seemed like on television and in the blogs, anyway.
As the 1 train pulled into 66th Street, I hoped that the cars would get stuck on the tracks somehow so I didn’t have to go. With my nerves all over the place and my hands shaking, I went inside to the Monika Chaing S/S ’13 presentation. I wanted everything – leather bralets, pleated pants, printed skinny jeans. Though the clothes were draped around flawless models, I could imagine myself wearing them. I could be fashion-forward too.
After I had seen everything (and took over a million photos), I went back outside to meet my photographer. When I found out he’d be late, I panicked! I thought to myself, ” I could either be super awkward, or just act really important right now.” I chose the latter, because that’s what we DO at Swagger. A bunch of people asked for my photo, and I took a bunch for Swagger’s Instagram. I even got to chill (ok, kinda chill) with the model Selita Ebanks! She’s really sweet and even prettier in person. Here are some of our flicks from the day:
Not only was it my first #NYFW, it was also my first Fashion’s Night Out! Yaaaaay! My friend and Swagger photographer, Melissa, as well as my best friend of 4 years, Ava, came along for the eve. We had sooo much fun at Hugo Boss, McQueen, 47 Brand, etc.

And then on Friday, we went to see Red Doll‘s S/S ’13 collection and met the designer, Tatyana Merenyuk! Not only is she sweet and humble, she’s super talented. I just love her! The pictures just speak for themselves, simply GORGEOUS:
Oh, and, Actor Vincent De Paul was at Red Doll, and like a pro, we showed him how to get back to Lincoln Center. He caught the train with us and EVERYTHING! Well, that’s all so far. I’ll be back with another #NYFW update at the end of the week. Please cross your fingers that I don’t fall down the steps in front of Solange or something. Xoxo – Kimani

Amazing! Nice work!
