Back in 2010, when Scott Schuman was only really known by fashion insiders, he was perched outside of the Armory before a fashion show. As I chatted with the other writers/buyers outside, most of whom I had just met, we noticed a young socialite-y type girl fixing up her blazer, adjusting her sunglasses. As she approached, she must have caught eyes with Schuman, who raised his camera as if to take a photo. She went through the motions of posing, holding her clutch under her arm, kicking her stiletto in front of her, giving the very posed smile. And then, Schuman must have, like, decided her look wasn’t that good and put his camera back down. It was tragic for her, it was tragic for us. Only person who didn’t seem to care was The Sartorialist…”
