FREE HOLIDAY GATHERING, FUN RUN TO BENEFIT LOCAL CHARITIES

US Fed News Service, Including US State News December 13, 2007 The city of Boulder issued the following news release:

The city of Boulder Parks and Recreation Department will host a free, non-competitive fun run and holiday gathering from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 16 at the East Boulder Community Center (EBCC), 5660 Sioux Drive. Join local running stars Steve and Sara Slattery, Arturo Barrios and others for this social event benefiting local charities.

Runners of all abilities are welcome to participate in a flat, non-competitive run of up to five miles before returning to the EBCC for warm drinks and light refreshments. The run will depart from the center shortly after 2 p.m. Post-run coffee, tea, hot chocolate and holiday treats will be provided courtesy of Peet’s Coffee & Tea and the Great Harvest Bread Co. site boulder running company

Runners are encouraged to bring cans of food, new toys and used running shoes (and/or clothing) to benefit three local charities. Each participant will receive one raffle ticket for each item donated. Running and fitness-related gifts will be raffled during the event, courtesy of Climate Smart, Bolder Boulder, the city of Boulder Parks and Recreation Department, Boulder Running Company, Fleet Feet Boulder, Celestial Seasonings, Spruce Confections, Gemini Adventure and others. in our site boulder running company

Steve Slattery is a nationally-ranked steeplechaser and sub-four minute miler, Sara is the 2006 Bolder Boulder elite women’s race champion and 2007 Pan-American Games 10,000 meter winner, and Arturo Barrios is a four-time Bolder Boulder winner and former multiple world-record holder. Sara will bring her Pan-American Games gold medal to the gathering for viewing.

Donated canned food items will be given to the Emergency Family Assistance Association (EFAA), toys will be donated to Boulder children living in low-income housing through the Youth Service Initiative (YSI) and running shoes and clothing will be distributed to athletes around the globe through One World Running.
